Making you part of our family
Lloyd and Wendy Westers feel truly blessed to have lived on and evolved their scenic property for 30 years. Now, they are sharing their property with you with Black Barn Winery & Event Hall.
The two have always had an affinity for old barns. Years ago, Lloyd and his dad tore down two old Michigan barns to construct Lloyd and Wendy's current home, a reconstructed barn, where they raised their four boys.
Through the years, Lloyd and Wendy continually made improvements to the property, loving to share it with friends and family alike. Nine years ago, one of those improvements included planting a vineyard, in hopes of someday opening a small, family owned winery. As their boys started leaving for college a few years ago, the Westers began to think about how they were going to sustain this property and make that dream happen. So, as Lloyd did with his dad thirty years ago, he began tearing down another 100 year-old Michigan barn with their sons, using much of the old barn wood to renovate Lloyd's existing workshop into a New England style barn.
They finished the barn just in time to host their oldest son's wedding in January of 2017, and are excited to begin sharing it with others for their special events. As they continue on the journey of opening the winery, watch this site for information and updates about mid-Michigan's newest winery & event venue.
When you walk into Black Barn Winery & Event Hall, you'll notice the wrought iron chandeliers, the wall-to-wall glass doors and an elegant design throughout. But you'll also notice the floor, scuffed and slightly stained hardwood that shows the history of the building. You might also notice reclaimed barn wood beams along the entire structure of the hall and the trim around the windows.
The Black Barn Winery & Event Hall that you see today is compiled of many different histories; the Westers family business history (originally a fishery, then the workshop for Northwest Cabinet Company), and a rich history of Michigan, with the use of reclaimed wood from a historic barn. The slideshow you see below shows pictures of the barn that was used in the making of Black Barn, as well as pictures of the renovations that took place on this beautiful building.
